Why Do We Do What We do

Why DO we do what we do day in and day out? How many times a day do you ask yourself that question? We are up at the crack of dawn in preparation for another day in the working world and all too often coming home AFTER the kids have gone to bed. Those are precious moments that are gone forever.

Why do we do this? Is the motivation money? If that is the reason, then you had better be saving some serous dough and paying off some debt. If not, what is the point? Do you spend every penny you earn? Maybe a person should get rid of those materialistic possessions that require more hours of hard work and use that time with family. How much stuff does a person really need? A bigger house or another suv? There is no end.

Is your driving force notoriety and public recognition? That is most certainly fleeting. Our sense of accomplishment and making positive contributions to the community should be enough.

My personal motivation is my children. Regardless of what kind of day I have had, all I need are two tiny arms squeezing my neck and a beautiful little voice asking me how my day was. That is my payday. Children are a person’s most important asset and should be the top priority, not a job or a hobby.

A very wise man (my Dad) once said, “The only people who will come to visit you when you are in the retirement home, are your children,” no one else! After the money is gone and the accolades have faded, your children are all you have and will always be by your side. Take care of them now, not after you have made your first million.
